Narrative: walking

For years I’ve collected random items during my walks on the beaches of the south coast, from pebbles and shells with holes, to feathers, fossils and rusty metal. They often find their way into my sketchbook and quilts, but are now properly documented, inspired by a course with Alice Fox. Strips represent the length of the walk, and the number of items collected.

Strips made for Diversity's Narrative Thread exhibition.

Materials: Own rust-dyed cotton and linen fabric, lightly felted recycled merino wool blanket

Method:  Continuous line drawing, hand and machine quilting. Drawn strips are rusted after all the stitching is in place

Size: varies. Longest strip 200cm, widest 20cm.
