Unseen forces: Fragmentation
Continuing my series considering the forces that shape our coast: human development brings an ever-increasing demand for more housing, more sea defences, more leisure and entertainment facilities, more transport links and other supporting infrastructure.
What price to the species suffering fragmentation of precious habitats, divided from the resources they need to survive? There must surely be a balance to be struck allowing us all to share the planet - a challenge for policy-makers and individuals alike.

Materials: cotton and linen fabric, procion dye, formusol, cotton and linen threads.
Process: hand dyed and painted fabric, some discharge-printed with original Thermofax designs and found objects; linen fabric eco-printed with plant material from the Undercliff at Lyme Regis and rusty nails; simple piecing; hand and machine quilting
